Ministry of Education announced that elementary students in grades 1 to 12 would be required to take part in a minimum of 30 minutes of sustained moderate to vigorous daily physical activity (DPA), as part of the government's comprehensive Healthy Schools Plan. As the policy explains, daily physical activity must be scheduled during instructional time and can be conducted in a variety of locations, including classrooms, the outdoors, the gymnasium, and multipurpose areas.
An understanding of good health and fitness concepts and practices is essential for all students. Businesses have already begun to realize the extent to which poor health practices can undermine an employee's effectiveness and ability to succeed. The same is true of students. Teaching our students good health and safety principles can lead to a lifetime of healthy practices, resulting in more productive, active, and successful lives. The Essential Academic Learning Requirements in health and fitness establish the concepts and skills necessary for safe and healthy living, and in turn, for successful learning. Vance Jackson has great experience consulting with school on how to integrate the daily physical activity DPA act into their curriculum. Not only will students achieve benefits but the parents and the teachers will achieve with specialized fitness programs.
